What Are You Thankful For?

It’s easy to get caught up in the “stuff” of day to day life. It’s easy to get overwhelmed, fed up, frustrated and scared from time to time. But every now and then, it’s great to stop yourself and think about what you are thankful for in life.

I remember – it must have been 10 years ago now – I got a journal-type book from Barnes and Noble and began to use Oprah’s idea of “The Gratitude Journal” and every single day, I would force myself to come up with 5 things that I was thankful for. It sounds easy enough, but after about day 5, you run out of the obvious. You start REALLY digging deep for things that you are thankful for.

But beyond that, something happened internally! I began to really BE thankful for everything and I stopped taking things for granted. I started looking at all the people that were important in my life and rather than going from generic statements like, “I’m thankful for my mother,” I started getting specific. “I am thankful for the encouragement my mother gave me to get started in real estate”. That’s when I really began to appreciate everything on a deeper level.

So… in the spirit of Thanksgiving, I encourage you to post your comments to this post and write 5 things that you are thankful for in your life. Then… share them with the people that you are thankful for when you’re sitting around the table with family and friends!

Here are the 5 things that I’m most thankful for today:

  1. Brandon (who many of you know from the “operations” man that keeps things running smoothly for me and you!) He keeps me even-tempered and on focus and reminds me to take some time off every now and then (-; We just recently celebrated our first anniversary and I try to take time each day to stop and be thankful for how he’s changed my life.
  2. My mother for believing in me (and being my first private money lender :- ) when I was first getting started in real estate and for her support as I struggled through the early days.
  3. My friends around the world (I could go on and on naming names here, but I won’t because it would just take too long). I have been fortunate to meet the most incredible people in all my travels and trips to seminars and through our trainings; people that care for, and support, one another regardless of what’s going on in their lives. There’s nothing like attending another event and seeing your best friends. It’s like a family reunion every time. This has been my biggest reward since I got into this business and what I consider my best gift. I’ve laughed with them, cried with them, and shared the journey as I’ve taken it!
  4. My cat! She’s a quirky little creature that makes me laugh. She hasn’t a care in the world other than which can of food she’s going to get today. I’m not one of those fanatical “cat lovers”, but I have to say… this one sure is a lot of fun and brings us joy every day.
  5. Each and every one of our subscribers and members. It is because of you that we are here. You keep us on our toes and keep us working hard to improve ourselves and be the very best that we can be.

Now it’s your turn! What are you most thankful for today? Please post your comments below!

I’m thankful for the Lord proding me like a baby eagle out of my “comfort zone” nest and using many different people to get me to step out in spite of my fears into real estate and to have a few key folks to say the rewards are worth the struggle and persistence in the end.

    A LESSON IN LIFE

Sometimes people come into your life and you know right away,
that they were meant to be there.
They serve some sort of purpose, teach you a lesson or help you figure out who you are
or who you want to become.

You never know who these people may be; your roommate, neighbor, professor,
long lost friend, lover or even a complete stranger who,
When you lock eyes with them, you know that very moment they
will affect you life in a profound way.

Sometimes things happen and at the time they may seem
    horrible, painful or unfair,
but in retrospect you realize that with out overcoming those obstacles you would have never realized your potential strength, will power or heart.

Everything happens for a reason. Nothing happens by chance
or by means of good or bad luck.
Illness, injury, love, lost moments or true greatness and sheer stupidity
all occur to test the limits of your soul.

Without these small tests, whether they be events, illnesses or relationships,
life would be like a smoothly paved, straight, flat road to nowhere.
Safe and comfortable but dull and utterly pointless.

The people you meet who affect your life and the successes and downfalls you experience
    create who you are,
even the bad experiences can be a lesson. In fact, they are probably
the most poignant and important ones.

If someone hurts you, betrays you or breaks your heart,
    forgive them,
for they have helped you learn about trust and the importance of being cautious
to whom you open your heart.

If someone loves you, love them back unconditionally,
not only because they love you,
but because they are teaching you to love and opening your heart and eyes to things you would have never seen or felt without them.

Make every day count. Appreciate every moment and take from it
    everything that you possibly can,
for you may never be able to experience it again.

Talk to people you have never talked to before, and actually listen, let yourself fall in love,
break free and set your sights high.
Hold your head up because you have every right to do so. Tell yourself you are
a great individual and believe in yourself.

If you don’t believe in yourself, no one else will believe in you either.
You can make of you life anything you wish.
Create your own life, then go out, and live it.

Thanks Heather & Brandon for being part of my life!
